White City Place Pays Homage To Its Olympic Roots By Hosting The Original Marathon

White City Place was delighted to host the Original Marathon on 7 March for the third year running, with runners finishing on the iconic 1908 Olympic Marathon finish line.

The race retraced the original 26.2-mile route of the 1908 London Olympic Marathon, the race that set the global standard distance, from Windsor Castle to White City. All participants received a replica 1908 Olympic medal to commemorate their achievement as they crossed the finish line.

This year, four runners from Halesowen Athletics Club took part, retracing the steps of their founder, Jack Price, a 1908 Olympic trial winner. In 1908, Jack won the Midlands Marathon Trial and secured his place on the British Olympic team. He then led the 1908 Olympic Games Marathon for 14 miles but had to stop due to extreme heat and exhaustion.

For the third year in a row, the event was held in partnership with Aspire who were supported by 25 dedicated runners. Aspire is a charity that provides practical support to people paralysed by spinal cord injuries.  To learn more about Aspire, please visit their website: https://www.aspire.org.uk/

Thank you to everyone who attended and took part. If you’re interested in participating next year or would like to learn more about the Original Marathon, please visit: https://www.originalmarathon.com/
